In February 2014, Prudential Preferred, REALTORS officially joined the Berkshire Hathaway family, as Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Michigan Real Estate. The heritage and superior service we have fostered under the ownership of Steve Fase continues, has in fact grown stronger.

The Prudential Preferred, REALTORS Family of Companies traces its origins to 1953 with Fase Realty out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Broker Owner Don Fase started the company with two locations in Grand Rapids. In 1973 he was joined by his son Steve Fase, who began growing the company by expanding into building, and recruiting over 100 REALTORS by 1978.
Diversifying into three companies, Fase oversaw Fase Realty and Home Builders, Fase Builders Inc., and Northpoint Development Company. By 1980 they owned 5 subdivisions and were the dominant builder and brokerage in the area.
In 1989, Steve Fase joined a new real estate franchise, Prudential Real Estate. Fase refocused strictly on the brokerage, and in the 2000s, began to grow regionally.
The first major acquisition was the purchase of Prudential West Michigan in 2001 into the Kalamazoo real estate market. This was quickly followed by the purchases of Bertolissi & Associates, Crossroads Realty, and Clancy Realtors. In 2003, the company purchased the largest brokerage in Kalamazoo, Preferred Carlson, and expanded into Three Rivers real estate with Ruth Scott Real Estate, and Battle Creek with the purchase of Coldwell Banker Joy Brown.
From these first ventures in Southwest Michigan, he committed to expanding statewide. He purchased the a brokerage in northern Michigan which became Prudential Preferred Properties Network. In Eastern Michigan, he purchased Prudential Great Lakes and Prudential Anderson, Lemmer and Wilson. In Indiana, he purchased Prudential One Realty.
The next evolution, joining Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices marks the next chapter in the Fase Realty history. Across the state of Michigan and Northern Indiana the yard signs can be seen, united under the name of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Michigan Real Estate and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Northern Indiana Real Estate. With over 37 offices, 600 licensed REALTORS, and over 100 devoted staff, the legacy of Fase Realty has truly grown to the statewide leader in real estate. (As of transition date 2014.)
But more, it was built on the foundation to serve--not only the public, but the agents and staff. "I think when you are working at something you like and believe in, like selling people a home, it's a good life's work," Fase said. "Over 40 years, I love the real estate business, I love homes, and that drove my business. As I've matured, I really enjoy people. What better thing to work on?"
What started with a single office in Grand Rapids with his father has evolved into a nationally recognized brokerage, built with his brother Jim Fase, his close friends, and now a third generation including his children, nieces and nephews.
"I've been doing this a long time. I've had my best friends and family involved in this company," Fase said. "Working with people in your life that you love and are close to; what better way to establish a goal and all work to accomplish that over time?"
