Living on Torch Lake

A Singular Experience

Was-wa-gon-ong.  Place of the torches.  Torch Lake was know first by the Ojibwe fisherman who cast their lights on the dark water to attract fish into their nets and to their spears.  Torch Lake is still that place:  clear, quiet, and steeped in history.

With a year round population of 1,194, Torch Lake is part of the Chain of Lakes watershed.  At 19 miles, it is the longest in the state and the second largest in the area, at 18,770 acres.  It accumulates those who relish natural spaces and a truly relaxed existence.  On its shores, the villages of Alden, Eastport, Clam River and Torch Lake offer dining, shopping, and community.
