Living in Three Rivers, Michigan

Family. Community.  A Beautiful Life.

By Karen Hay

It’s the people which make our town of Three Rivers unique. Families who have lived here for three generations lend a sense of stability and maintain an historical perspective of our community. It’s the transplants which arrive for jobs, light industrial with strong regional and international ties, the local hospital and the Three Rivers School system that bring new cultures and vibrance. It’s the new-comers retiring here to their second home providing an urban mindset to this rural idyllic community. It’s the flavor of out-of- towners vacationing at the lakes and rivers who shop, play and support this community of 15,000 sharing their diversity.

Oh yes, there are three rivers--the St. Joe River, the Rocky River, and the Prairie Rivers, a couple of creeks, seven navigable lakes, and those ponds you stumble upon and ask, “Are there fish?” So yes, we have waterfront! The geography matches the splendor of the water, with rolling hills, flat, fertile plains, and mature hardwood forests. We have four summer camps, four retreat centers, a marvelous health center, Health TRAC and Meyers Broadway Park, a great county park in our community.

Need some culture? We have a vibrant Carnegie Center for the Arts with classes and shows throughout the year. Need some entertainment? We have three venues for live theater and two movie theaters, one of which features indie films! We have two city festivals in the summer, plus a couple of parades for those that love to come together as a community. Plus we are only 40 minutes away from major urban areas in any direction to further entertain and stimulate.

With a financially stable hospital, city and school system, Three Rivers is embracing the future. Much energy is poured into the Historic District of our 150 year old downtown. The lovely Riverwalk is expanding. Funding is being sought for a walk/bike trail connecting the city to the County park, and building a community field sports complex that will add much for families here in Three Rivers.

We count ourselves among the lucky that have cherished and discovered the joys of living in Three Rivers, Michigan.  We welcome you to uncover our corner of Pure Michigan.
